One of the most intriguing tidal mysteries is surely how springs and neaps always occur at the same time of the day at any given spot. I observed it and knew it was happening, but I could never figure out why. High water on the west coast early morning and early evening means springs, a big strand means neaps. The same in Dublin in reverse, springs when HW is at lunchtime. If you have sight of the moon, you have most of the rest of what you need for trip planning.
