The first ever sea kayak race in Dublin Bay takes place this October. With categories to suit everyone, this is a race not to be missed!!!

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

The race is run on a course that is subject to strong tidal flows

The course or race may be changed if weather conditions dictate

All paddlers must have ICU Lever 2 (BCU 2*) skills or higher and may be asked for evidence of skill or competency/evidence of certification or club recommendation.

Race organisers decisions with regard to entry acceptance are final

Neither the organisers nor the ICU accept responsibility for damage or loss
Safety Rules
o All participants must have a minimum of ICU level 2 (or BCU 2 *) proficiency level (evidence of certification or a club recommendation may be required).
o Certification of guardian or club coach is required in respect of paddlers under 16.
o Buoyancy aids and suitable clothing must be worn by all participants.
o Boats must pass through boat control where seaworthiness and safety equipment will be checked.
o Participants are advised to carry a whistle and radio equipment, if available.
o Neither organisers nor the ICU accept responsibility for any damage or loss.
o Race organisers’ decisions with regard to entry acceptance are final.
The race will be run in an area that is subject to strong tidal flows. Participants are required to attend the course briefing before the race start. Safety procedures and any course alterations will be notified at this briefing.
Classes
o 1. Novice singles and 2. Novice Doubles including sit on tops, (Short course) classes are open to paddlers who have limited kayaking experience and have not competed in sea or river races previously.
o 3. General Touring Single sea kayaks (standard course) must be 50cm or more in width and can be of unlimited length.
o 4. General Touring Doubles sea kayaks (standard course) must be 55cm or more in width and can be of unlimited length.
o 5. Racing Singles (long course) under 50cm in width and unlimited length and can include white water racing kayaks, surf skis and ocean skis.
o 6. Racing Doubles (long course) under 55cm in width and unlimited length.
ICF specification racing K1 and K2 craft are not eligible to enter.
