HI All
I have written, and the committee has agreed the role description of the club  Environmental Officer which is a co-opted position. It is available to view in the Members Area under Information. Thanks to Alan Horner and Emer O'Boyle for their comments on the early draft.
I reproduce it here but you will get to see really cute seal whiskers if you read it posted in the Members Area - Information section :-)
When drafting the role description I was very aware that every EO will bring their own unique interests to this role and hope that this flexibility is reflected in it. Thanks
Sue

Role of Environment Officer in East Coast Sea Kayaking Cub

Vision: ECSKC paddlers are role models for nature positive paddling.

Values:
ECSKC members respect all life in the coastal environment and hold a unique perspective of the marine environment to contribute to knowledge and protection of biodiversity. They acknowledge the impact sea kayakers have on the natural world, and so share and implement strategies to minimise the environmental impact club members may have whilst launching, paddling, landing, camping, purchasing equipment and travelling to launch sites.

Role Description
  1. The East Coast Sea Kayak Club Environmental Officer (EO) acts as an advocate for the marine environment, and responsible human interaction with it, through the activities of the club and through representation at committee level. They will consult with members, at least once a year on the development and implementation of nature positive practices, e.g. a club Charter for Nature.
  2. The EO may promote positive actions club members may take to reduce their impact on the environment whilst paddling, i.e. by raising awareness of habits based on Leave no Trace principles.
  3. The EO may arrange talks, events, paddles, training, etc. that support learning about the environments we paddle in, the ecological processes that affect it, the species we share it with and our role in protecting them.
  4. The EO may connect with and promote other clubs and organisations working towards education and positive action for the marine environment, including citizen science initiatives.
