Idealy, each club member should have all of their own equipment. However, for newer members who don't yet own their own equipment or where regular members need to occasionally borrow equipment, the club has three sea kayaks and some basic gear available for rental / loan.

Club kayaks

Available equipment:

  • Valley Avocet x 1 & NDK Sport x 2 sea kayaks
  • Paddles
  • Paddle leash
  • Buoyancy aid
  • Nylon spraydeck
  • Kayaking cagoule (large only)
  • Roof rack straps

Note that the club does not have wetsuits or multiple sizes of cagoules available. If you need a wetsuit or other equipment too, you may do better to rent from one of the commercial operators instead.

How to book

Contact the Quarter Master sufficiently in advance of the meet to make arrangements for collection and return. In general you will need to have your own transport, including roof bars, and will need to collect and return the gear yourself.

Cost

Club equipment may be used by members without charge. Timely collection and return is expected.

Rules

  1. Only current members of the East Coast Sea Kayaking Club may borrow the equipment. Members may borrow club equipment for club meets only. Any equipment borrowed must be returned after the meet. Leaders may borrow club equipment for training exercises.
  2. The borrower is liable to reimburse the club for the cost of repair or replacement if the equipment is lost, stolen, not returned or damaged beyond normal wear and tear.
  3. Frequently late or excessively slow return of equipment, failure to take good care of the borrowed equipment or other unreasonable behaviours will be grounds to exclude the offending member(s) from further usage of club equipment.

We have a QM now who controls the boats and other eqpt. The meets officer should not be contacted unless they are also the QM.
